The Farm
Maple Wind Farm is a pasture-based livestock farm operating in Richmond and Bolton, Vermont for more than 20 years. The farm produces pasture-raised non-GMO pork, turkeys, layer and broiler chickens, and 100% grass-fed beef. The core of our agricultural mission centers around daily moves of our livestock, providing animals with the freshest pasture possible, while regenerating soil & water resources. Our certified organic, USDA poultry slaughter and meat processing plant allows us to bring these high-quality, regenerative proteins directly to our discerning customers.
Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) leads our diversified pasture-based livestock farm and food business. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of farm operations, retail sales, and customer fulfillment across multiple sales channels. The GM will be tasked with ensuring operational efficiency, maximizing profitability, and maintaining the highest standards of product quality, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in food production, food safety, and direct-to-consumer sales. The GM will be accountable for driving measurable results that align with the farm's mission of regenerative agriculture, profitability, and community engagement. The General Manager role offers the opportunity to lead a growing, mission-driven farm and food business with a strong commitment to regenerative agriculture, community engagement, and customer satisfaction.
Effectiveness Areas
- Team Leadership and Employee Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 4 full-time year-round employees and 10-12 full-time seasonal employees.
- Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience:
- Oversee sales through the on-farm market, e-commerce website, farmers market, and home delivery program.
- Manage product inventory, ensuring consistent availability of high-quality products across all channels.
- Collaborate with marketing team to develop and execute promotional campaigns, social media, and customer engagement strategies.
- Implement customer feedback systems to continuously improve the customer experience.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and minimize operational risks.
- Community Engagement & Brand Building:
- Represent the farm (or train representatives) at local events, farmers markets, and community meetings.
- Build partnerships with other sustainable farms, food businesses, and local organizations.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to communicate the farm's mission and values to customers and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years of experience in farm management, food production, or a related field, preferably in pasture-based or regenerative agriculture.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong experience with e-commerce, marketing, retail management, and customer service.
- Proven track record of managing complex operations, teams, and budgets.
- Commitment to sustainable agriculture and the farm’s mission of regenerating soil and producing high-quality pasture-raised products.
Compensation and Benefits:
- 55,000-65,000/$ DOE
