Position Purpose:

We are looking to hire 3 Food Access & Gleaning Interns this season in Burlington, VT. Gleaning is the act of harvesting and gathering surplus or “seconds” from farms. The mission of the Vermont Foodbank is to gather and share quality food and nurture partnerships so that no Vermonter will go hungry. The Gleaning Program is a key part of this mission, and through this process, we collect fresh and nutritious food that might otherwise go to waste. Gleaned or donated produce is delivered to food shelves, meal sights, and senior centers throughout Vermont. 

The primary responsibility of the Food Access & Gleaning Intern is to assist in gleaning and distributing produce within Chittenden County alongside the Food Access & Gleaning Program Assistant and Senior Manager – Community Engagement. This position provides an opportunity to deeply engage with food access in Chittenden County especially regarding fresh and culturally responsive foods.

Compensation and Benefits

Hours will vary depending on the season and distribution schedules. The summer season will entail about 10-15 hours per week, 3-4 days/week. The length of the position is approximately June 24th, 2024 – August 15th, 2025 (dates flexible).  Compensation for this internship is set at a $2,000 stipend (based on whole season, subject to change based on duration accepted).
