NOFA-VT's annual Winter Conference will take place at the UVM Davis Center in Burlington on Saturday, February 15 - Sunday, February 16. The main conference takes place on Saturday with a full slate of workshops, roundtable discussions, meet-ups, community art-making, and other activities. On Sunday, we will deep-dive into singular topics during all-day intensive workshops. Attend either day, or both!
The NOFA-VT Winter Conference provides a valuable opportunity for farmers, gardeners, land stewards, educators, students, policy-makers, and other food system activists to share ideas, resources, and skills.
This year’s theme is Growing Together. From corporate consolidation to land access barriers, it’s easy to feel like “the powers that be” are constantly fighting against a localized, just, ecological food system. But, as eons of societal change show us, we all have the power to create better conditions when we come together; if one person alone is a single thread, a community of people sharing knowledge, humanity, and inspiration is the thread woven together into a strong, vibrant social fabric.
Don’t miss the keynote speech from collaborators and friends Dãnia Davy and Tim Gibbons. Dãnia Davy is a lawyer, using her expertise to improve access to legal services for Black farmers and promote liberatory relationships between humans, natural and financial resources, and the land. She’s the founder of Land & Liberation, LLC, served as Senior Policy Advisor for the US Southeast Region at Oxfam, worked as the Director of Land Retention and Advocacy at the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund, and taught at Vermont Law School. Tim has been with the Missouri Rural Crisis Center (MRCC) since 2005, representing independent family farmers and citizens concerned with our food supply, natural resources, and democracy. Through his work with MRCC, Tim preserves family farms, promotes stewardship of the land, and strives for economic and social justice by building unity and mutual understanding among diverse groups, both rural and urban. Together, they’ll share their experiences building meaningful, grassroots power in rural communities.
