Join us at VTSU CAFE for a hands-on Maple Tree Tapping training! This training introduces participants to the basics of maple tree tapping, with a focus on tree health and getting the most sap from each taphole. Participants will learn about tree physiology, tool selection, different types of spouts, and how to find the best taphole location. The course will cover tapping techniques and provide opportunities to practice tapping trees at the campus sugarbush.
Participants will receive a variety of spout samples from Middle Valley Maple to practice installing, and will be able to take home their spouts.
Led by Cory Krieg of the Vermont Maple Farmers Collective (maplefarmers.com), this hands-on training will help participants build the skills and confidence needed to tap their own trees and provide the essential knowledge for pursuing employment in maple sugaring operations.
When? 3/1. 9AM-12PM
Where? The Red School House at the VTSU Randolph Campus, Randolph Center, VT
How much? $115 for hands-on training. We accept VSAC Advancement Grants and AmeriCorps Segal funds.
