We are on the Road to Food Security in Vermont
Vermont has the tools, knowledge, and resources to create food security and ensure that every person living here has the food they want and need to be healthy and nourished. The Vermont Food Security Roadmap to 2035 guides our way to a future when all Vermonters are food secure.
The Roadmap, developed over two years with tremendous community input and engagement, provides actionable, detailed strategies to reach Vermont Farm to Plate’s Legislative Outcome of healthy local food for all Vermonters. Vermont will be food secure when the Roadmap’s three goals are met:
- Government ensures food security for all in Vermont
- Vermont farms have the resources to be resilient
- Communities have the tools to support food security
Now the Vermont Food Security Coalition is working with Legislators and communities across the state to advance Roadmap strategies and reach these goals. During the 2024 Legislative session, we advanced seven Roadmap strategies. For example, the Coalition worked with representatives to begin to add food considerations within state disaster preparedness, response, and recovery planning (Act 143). With the State’s leadership, our collective action will be successful.
