FSNE Racial Equity Challenge

Farm to Plate invites you to be a partner in imagining and creating a more just, resilient and equitable food system for Vermont. Starting April 1st, we will be hosting weekly online meetings to reflect and engage in conversation tied to participation in the Food Solutions New England 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge. This will help to frame a future Community of Practice for organizations and individuals engaged in important equity related work within the food system and our state's agricultural communities. Anore Horton, Executive Director of Hunger Free Vermont, and Ernesto Mendez, UVM Professor of Agroecology & Environmental Studies, will be hosting alongside Farm to Plate staff.

This work furthers a central goal of the 2021 to 2030 Agriculture and Food System Strategic Plan:

Food system organizations and stakeholders prioritize racial equity and actions to eradicate structural racism in their work, are accountable to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) leadership, and support BIPOC participation and representation.

Between summer 2022 and April 2023, 21 interviews occurred with interested parties and two meetings held, one in-person on January 24th, 2023 in Richmond VT and the other online on February 14th, 2023. This information helped to lay the foundation for equity related work within the Farm to Plate Network moving forward. Read the full report at the link below:
