Vermont Farm and Forest School Receives USDA FTS Grant for "Climate Resilience and Food Systems" Project

Vermont Farm and Forest School, an independent K-5 School in Roxbury, VT, received a 2-year grant from the USDA Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program for our project, "Climate Resilience and Food Systems: Growing Agents of Change." We are deep into our work on the project, working with local farmers, educators, and school nutrition professionals across Vermont to address the following objectives:

  1. Develop standards-aligned, interdisciplinary science and social studies units for grades 3-5 on the topic of climate resilience and food systems, complete with materials kits for educators and farmers. (Our science unit is currently under development and focuses on soil health.)
  2. Provide training, coaching, and support for teachers and farmers to implement the curriculum.
  3. Build relationships between and provide training to schools and local farmers in order to increase local food procurement for schools and establish sustainable markets for farms.

If you are an educator, farmer, school nutrition professional, or curriculum enthusiast who wants to get involved, or someone who just wants to learn more or stay in the loop on our project, please reach out to us at tarync@vermontfarmandforestschool.org and misse@vermontfarmandforestschool.org.
