Tall Spire Farm in Manchester Center set to launch its second season at Manchester Farmers' Market in August for 10 weeks
Tall Spire Farm was launched by First Congregational Church in Manchester Village in 2013 with support from the Vermont Community Foundation. 40 community volunteers grew produce, herbs and flowers which were sold weekly all summer at Equinox Valley Nursery. Tall Spire Kids painted rocks and made farm art for sale. We also offered local honey, eggs, bread and baked goods. Over $1,000 was raised and donated to the Manchester Community Food Cupboard for food distribution throughout the Manchester area. We were also able to educate both locals and visitors to the area about food insecurity in northern Bennington County.
This year we are organizing Tall Spire Farm a little differently. We are focusing our growing on zucchini and on zinnias! Failsafe and bountiful (we hope!). We will prepare breads, dips, pickles and chips each week for sale at the Manchester Farmer's Market as well as offer zinnias and greens in vintage mason jars. We are also launching a community orchard project, with various fruit trees for sale, which can be planted in various sites around the region, with proceeds benefitting the project. Our aim this year will again be to raise awareness and funds for hunger relief in the Northshire.
