Sunsoil Provides Scholarships for Sustainable Agriculture Students at Sterling College

February 3, 2020 • Craftsbury Common, VT • Pioneering Vermont CBD company Sunsoil is committed to investing in Vermonters looking to learn how to re-make agriculture from one of the most destructive of human activities to one that is regenerative. The Hardwick-based company is offering $10,000 in scholarships to Vermont students studying sustainable agriculture at Sterling College, Vermont’s higher education leader in ecological thinking and action.

Sunsoil founders Jacob Goldstein and Alejandro Bergad first conceived of the scholarship in October 2019. Sunsoil’s original 50-acre farm is in the neighboring town of Hardwick, Vermont. 

"Sterling College provides a wonderful opportunity for students seeking an ecological, values-driven, experiential education,” said Jacob Goldstein, Co-Founder and VP of Agriculture at Sunsoil. “We are thrilled to offer this scholarship which will help Vermont students study sustainable agriculture here in our local community." 

Sterling College was one of the very first colleges in the United States to offer a sustainable agriculture major and has had a campus farm since 1965. “Sunsoil’s philosophy regarding responsible farming and business practices aligns well with Sterling’s commitment to socio-ecological engagement. Thanks to philanthropy, Sterling can provide an affordable and pertinent education at a time of global ecological distress,” said Christina Goodwin ‘02, Dean of Advancement and Alumni Relations. “The world needs our graduates who go on to become researchers, policymakers, farmers and advocates, many choosing to stay in Vermont.”
