Food Chain Workers and Their Working Conditions in VT

On June 13th, the Vermont Fair Food Campaign held a press conference to announce the findings of a year-long study on the conditions of food system workers in our state. The VFFC was joined at the press conference by supporters from the Vermont Workers Center, Migrant Justice, the American Federation of Teachers, and Voices for Vermont's Children.

The study, Backbone of Sustainable Food: Food Chain Workers and Their Working Conditions in Vermont, is the result of surveying with 168 workers at 42 establishments in the Vermont food industry, including food processing, distribution, and retail sectors. The report sheds light on the many issues faced by food system workers in Vermont, such as the need for livable wages, paid sick leave, affordable health insurance, more consistent hours and schedules, and more respect on the job.
