Caledonia Spirits Wins Gold and 2013 Gin of the Year at International Wine and Spirits Competition
Hong Kong – Vermont’s own Caledonia Spirits impressed the judges at the sixth annual International Wine and Spirits Competition in Hong Kong, walking away with 2013 Gin of the Year and a Gold Medal for Barr Hill Gin.
Secretary of Agriculture Chuck Ross, who was in Hong Kong leading a Food and Agriculture Trade Mission, accepted the award on the company’s behalf. “Caledonia Spirits is an example of the authenticity upon which the Vermont brand is built,” said Ross. “This company has put a stake in the ground for other Vermont businesses looking to expand their presence into the international marketplace.”
In addition to Caledonia Spirits, Bascom Family Farm maple and the Vermont Cheese Council are also participating in the Trade Mission to Hong Kong and China, which is being sponsored by Food Export-Northeast and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.
"Our business has its foundation in Vermont's working landscape," said Caledonia Spirits founder/beekeeper Todd Hardie. "Consumers from Vermont, Montreal through New York to Virginia, Chicago, Hong Kong and Japan appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each bottle of Barr Hill gin. We are very excited our work with grain farmers in Vermont as we develop our whiskey program and fill barrels."
The Agency of Agriculture is providing export assistance to Caledonia spirits and dozens of other Vermont companies to help them access and grow sales in the international marketplace.
